Bikes EVERYWHERE
I mentioned before that Ravenna is on flat terrain. One thing this means is everyone (and we mean EVERYONE) rides bikes. The pedestrian streets have a special lane down the middle for bikes.
Every building has bike racks outside. Every fence is lined with bikes - locked lightly (none of the big heavy chains we see in San Francisco).
It makes for a quiet downtown, and we're figuring the populace must be healthier overall -- what an interesting route to lower healthcare costs ….
The basic approach seems to be that any place is a bike parking spot -- so you often see signs forbidding parking bikes in certain areas.
And...they're often not effective.
